BaselineZ visualises subsurface and mining data in 3D, from a browser to a VR headset. Many geoscience tools tie data to specific software, devices or locations; BaselineZ brings multiple data sources together in one view that geoscientists can open securely from anywhere, on any device. Its users are international enterprises in the energy and mining sector, and the platform has been in continuous production for years. I have led its cloud platform since 2018.
I am responsible for the long-term platform architecture, its delivery and its secure operation. That covers the architecture, scalable .NET and Azure services that run as SaaS or on-premises, and hands-on development of the backend and several clients: Blazor web applications, WPF desktop tooling and Unity-based 3D and XR clients for iOS, the Meta Quest, Microsoft HoloLens 2 and large immersive rooms.
Working from Quito with an international team, as Scrum Master and technical lead I guide sprint planning and backlog priorities and mentor engineers across disciplines. I designed the containerised deployment strategy and CI/CD pipelines, and I define and monitor the security controls aligned with SOC 2, including support during audits.
Development of BaselineZ is agent-first: the codebase is set up with repository context, agent briefs and test gates, so that AI coding agents implement changes and verify them before review.
Key challenges
- The same platform runs as SaaS on Azure and fully on-premises, for clients who cannot move their data to the cloud.
- One backend serves very different clients — Blazor web apps, WPF desktop tooling and Unity 3D/VR clients.
- Security controls aligned with SOC 2, maintained through audits for international enterprise clients.
Architecture highlights
- .NET and Azure architecture designed for both SaaS and on-premises deployment.
- RESTful backend services shared by the web, desktop and XR clients.
- Containerised deployment with CI/CD pipelines for repeatable builds and controlled releases.
- Secure-by-design platform with monitored, SOC 2–aligned controls.
- Agentic software design: repository context and test gates so AI coding agents implement and verify changes.
