Software architecture for systems that have to keep working.

Niek JanninkPrincipal Software Engineer, Software Architect, Cloud Architect

For more than 20 years I have designed and built long-lived platforms in energy, medical devices, defence and government, from the architecture down to the code.

Three ways to work together

Through Jannink IT, my independent practice since 2012.
  • Architecture & technical direction

Roadmaps, architecture reviews and migration plans for platforms that have outgrown their first design, with security designed in, aligned with SOC 2.

    • Architecture roadmaps
    • Legacy and fat-client migration
    • SaaS and on-premises design
    • Security & SOC 2
  • Hands-on engineering

I write the production code myself: back ends, front ends, desktop and XR clients, and the pipelines that ship them.

    • .NET / C# and Azure
    • Python / FastAPI
    • Blazor, React, WPF
    • Unity for XR
  • Technical leadership

Technical lead and Scrum Master for multidisciplinary teams. I mentor engineers and set up repositories where AI coding agents ship tested changes.

    • Mentoring
    • Agentic workflows
    • Delivery in small steps

Deep in the Microsoft stack, broad beyond it.

C# since the first .NET beta in 2001 and Azure in production, with Python, React and Unity where the problem calls for them. Nine areas, each backed by the engagements behind it: Software Architecture, Agentic Software Design, Cloud Architecture & Azure, .NET & C#, Full-stack Development, Enterprise Integration, XR, VR & AR, DevOps & CI/CD, Technical Leadership.

How I work

I look for solutions that respect the customer's wishes, the deadline and the long-term sustainability of the result, and I don't avoid the hard decisions or the tedious tasks when the project benefits from them.

Own the whole system
Architecture decisions only hold when the architect also lives with the code. I stay hands-on, from the database schema to the deployment pipeline.
Improve while shipping
Most platforms I work on are years old and in production. I reduce technical debt step by step, without stopping the delivery of new functionality.
Secure by design
Tenant isolation, ownership checks and audited controls are part of the architecture from day one, not a phase at the end.
Agents write, tests decide
I work agent-first, with clear repository context and test gates, so AI coding agents speed up delivery without lowering the bar.

Have a platform that needs to last? Let’s talk about it.

I reply within one working day. The first call is a free, no‑obligation 30 minutes.
